Former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice refuses court appearance for impeachment advice
A former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice who was subpoenaed to appear in court in a lawsuit related to her advice on the possible impeachment of a current liberal justice will not have to provide testimony, as a judge ruled against holding a hearing for evidence. Instead, the judge will first hear arguments on whether the lawsuit alleging open meetings violations should be dismissed. Republican lawmakers had threatened possible impeachment of the current justice over comments she made about GOP-drawn legislative maps. The lawsuit alleges that three former conservative Supreme Court justices violated open meetings and open records laws, and seeks their public meeting and release of related records. The judge will decide whether the case should be dismissed as moot before taking testimony.
