"Promising Insomnia Drug Shows Potential in Preventing Opioid Relapse"
A study conducted by the Scripps Research Institute has found that an experimental insomnia drug called DORA-12 may help prevent opioid relapse. Rats undergoing oxycodone withdrawal were given DORA-12 and exhibited reduced drug-seeking behavior even after the treatment ended. Insomnia and other withdrawal symptoms contribute to relapses, so alleviating these symptoms could decrease the likelihood of relapse. The study suggests that DORA-12 or similar insomnia drugs could be used to treat opioid addiction in humans. However, further research is needed to determine the drug's efficacy and potential gender-specific responses.
