Silver Rail staff member Cassidy Schutz breaks silence on Bend school shooting
Cassidy Schutz, the learning specialist who threw her phone at and tackled the gunman during the October 15 Silver Rail Elementary shooting, released her first public statement on Friday. She expressed deep grief and requested privacy as the community prepares to reopen the school. The shooting killed four people, including three students and a teacher, and was stopped by a parent who fatally shot the 16-year-old shooter. Silver Rail Elementary remains closed through November 6 for repairs, while other district schools have resumed classes with increased security.
