X Explores Paid Membership Tiers to Offset Declining Ad Revenue
X is testing new paid membership tiers, including Basic, Standard, and Plus variations, to compensate for poor ad revenue. The Basic plan will not reduce the number of ads, while the Standard tier will show half as many ads. The Plus premium offering will remove ads entirely. Pricing information has not been announced. X's CEO mentioned that advertising, data licensing, and subscription revenue is growing, but nonprofit media watchdog Media Matters reported that advertisers are spending significantly less than before. X's finances have been a topic of discussion since Elon Musk's acquisition, and the company owes about $1.2 billion in interest payments per year on its debt.
