Shimano Launches SPD-SLR: Slim Cleats, Lighter Pedals and a Non-Backward Compatible Shift
Shimano unveils SPD-SLR, its first major overhaul of the SPD-SL system in two decades, introducing the slimmer CL‑SL120 cleats (four float options, fore-aft adjustment removed except for grey version), new Dura‑Ace PD‑R9300 and Ultegra PD‑R8200 pedals with about 2.3mm lower stack height, and S‑Phyre RC910 shoes with longer cleat slots. The setup is not backwards compatible with SPD‑SL, pricing is competitive, and early riders report a solid, locked-in feel—though widespread upgrade will require replacing all pedals across bikes.
