GM Drops Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for Safety Reasons
General Motors (GM) has faced criticism for its decision to remove Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its new electric vehicles starting from model year 2024. GM's head of infotainment, Tim Babbitt, justified the move by citing stability issues with CarPlay and Android Auto, including bad connections, poor rendering, slow responses, and dropped connections. Babbitt also mentioned compatibility issues with wired connections and older iPhones. GM emphasized its commitment to driver safety and its embedded infotainment strategy, which focuses on greater integration with the larger GM ecosystem and vehicles.
