Coast Guard's Search for Oil Spill Source Hits Dead End
Divers and underwater vehicles have inspected over 23 miles of the pipeline system belonging to Main Pass Oil Gathering, the company responsible for a massive oil spill off Louisiana's coast. However, the source of the leak, which released up to 1.1 million gallons of crude oil, has not been found yet. No new visible sheens or signs of oil contamination have been observed, and wildlife and shoreline assessments have shown no evidence of oil. Vessels in the area have been advised to exercise caution and avoid the affected area. The cause of the leak is suspected to be corrosion of the pipeline.
