Ford flags five 2026 models over a shared EcoBoost piston-dome defect
Ford is recalling 10,001 2026-model vehicles across five models (Bronco, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Ranger, Mustang) due to a defective piston-dome linked to a Ni-Ring insert from supplier Dong Yang Piston in Mexico. The issue affects 1,062 Broncos (2.3L EcoBoost), 237 Mustangs (2.3L), 3,071 Explorers, 432 Rangers (all 2.3L), and 5,199 Bronco Sports (1.5L EcoBoost). Ford will inspect engines and replace the engine long block if needed at no charge; owners will be notified by Sept. 11 via VIN lookup. This recall is separate from a 148,663 Mustang wiring-harness recall not related to this issue.
