Former Placer County DA staffer among victim in Iowa Hill manhunt shootout
Cheryl Macy, a former employee of the Placer County District Attorney's Office (2006–2020), was killed during an hours-long manhunt for Derek Spencer in Iowa Hill, California. Deputies fatally shot Spencer after a prolonged gunbattle; he had multiple prior arrests and was released on bond before the fatal confrontation. Macy died a day after her birthday, and the DA's Office mourned her loss.
