With Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund pulling funding after this season, LIV Golf is cutting purses, canceling its season-ending Team Championship, and facing multiple lawsuits over unpaid payments as it seeks a financial path forward through investor discussions and potential post-2026 equity for players.
The PGA Tour has announced a new program, PGA Tour Enterprises, offering its players the opportunity to become equity holders through a $3 billion investment from Strategic Sports Group (SSG), led by Fenway Sports Group. The grants, based on career accomplishments and membership status, could collectively provide over $1.5 million in equity to almost 200 Tour members. The program aims to strengthen the collective investment of players in the success of the PGA Tour and comes in response to the talent drain caused by the lucrative offers from LIV Golf. The SSG consortium includes prominent sports team owners, and the PGA Tour remains in negotiations with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund regarding a reconciliation agreement.
