Teachers Union Sues Education Dept Over PSLF Backlogs and Payment Reversals
The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) filed a lawsuit against Education Secretary Linda McMahon, alleging the Trump administration is mismanaging the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The suit claims the Department of Education is ignoring a backlog of nearly 90,000 buyback applications and illegally reversing qualifying payment counts for public servants. While the department attributes issues to correcting coding errors from the previous administration, plaintiffs argue these actions are unlawfully delaying debt relief for teachers, nurses, and first responders.
