Ghana's President Akufo-Addo has stated that he will not approve the anti-LGBTQ+ bill until the Supreme Court rules on its constitutionality, despite earlier indications that he would sign it if the majority of Ghanaians wanted him to do so. The bill, which imposes jail terms for identifying as LGBTQ+ or promoting their activities, has sparked widespread condemnation and raised concerns about Ghana's human rights record. The finance ministry warned of potential loss of World Bank funding, amounting to $3.8bn, if the bill becomes law. The Supreme Court's ruling is not expected before the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in December.
