FTC and 20 States Sue Dollar General for Systemic Register Overcharges
The Federal Trade Commission and 20 state attorneys general, including Michigan’s Dana Nessel, have sued Dollar General in Tennessee federal court. The complaint alleges the retailer systematically charged customers more at checkout than advertised on shelves for years, despite receiving nearly 30,000 complaints. The suit claims these practices generated millions in unlawful overcharges, disproportionately harming low-income households that make up 60% of the company’s revenue. Dollar General disputes the claims, stating it aims for 100% price accuracy and that occasional errors occur, while vowing to defend the litigation vigorously.
