WPBL kicks off four-city, pro women's baseball with big streaming plans
The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) launches this weekend with four teams—Los Angeles Queens, San Francisco Firebells, Boston Hunters, and New York Heights—playing 30 regular-season games at Springfield, Illinois’ Robin Roberts Stadium while ESPN streams 37 games (YouTube will carry international coverage). After drawing 600+ tryout participants, 120 advanced and 60 secured final rosters, signaling a fresh era for women’s pro baseball that builds on the AAGPBL legacy. The league, co-founded by Justine Siegal, draws talent from diverse paths (softball, collegiate baseball, Banana Ball, international players) and aims to create a lasting pipeline and wider audience for the sport, with notable players and stories from across the globe shaping its inaugural season.
