Long Island Public High Schools Lead US News Rankings for 2026-27

U.S. News & World Report's 2026-27 Best High Schools ranks 15 Long Island public high schools among New York’s top statewide listings, led by South Side High School (Rockville Centre) at No. 8 in New York and No. 494 nationally, followed by North Shore Senior High School (Glen Head), Commack, Pierson Middle/High School (Sag Harbor), Locust Valley, Hauppauge, Northport, Long Beach, West Islip, Bay Shore, Jericho, Great Neck South, Garden City, Syosset, and Manhasset; rankings are based on six metrics including state test scores, graduation rates, college readiness, underserved student performance, AP/IB participation, and curriculum breadth, using 2023-24 data from RTI International.

Boston Latin School Holds MA’s Top Spot as U.S. News Releases 2026 Rankings

Boston Latin School again tops Massachusetts’ high school rankings in U.S. News’ 2026 release (44th nationally), with Massachusetts continuing to have the most high schools in the top quartile nationally (46.7%). The rankings weigh six factors: college readiness (30%), college curriculum breadth (10%), state assessment proficiency (20%), state assessment performance (20%), underserved student performance (10%), and graduation rate (10%). Massachusetts also places six schools in the national top 50 for STEM, led by Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School at No. 32, with Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School (Hadley) and Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (Malden) among the top 50 charter/STEM schools. The state’s top 20 high schools include a mix of traditional and charter institutions such as Belmont High School, Lexington High School, Wayland High School, Brookline High School, and Newton South, among others.
