Translator accuses British Museum of unauthorized use of her work.

The British Museum has removed translations from its exhibition, China’s Hidden Century, after a translator alleged that their work had been used without permission, credit or payment. Yilin Wang, the translator, claimed that her translations of Chinese poet Qiu Jin’s poems were included in the exhibition without her permission or credit. The museum has apologized and offered financial payment to Wang, stating that the lack of permissions and acknowledgment for her translations was an “unintentional human error”.

British Museum Removes Writer's Chinese Poetry Translations Over Copyright Claims

The British Museum has removed translations of poetry by Chinese revolutionary Qiu Jin from its exhibition "China's Hidden Century" after translator Yilin Wang alleged that her work was used without permission or payment. Wang's translations were used in the exhibition's text, a photo wall, a large-print guide, and the catalogue. The British Museum has apologized to Wang and offered financial payment for the period the translations appeared in the exhibition, as well as for the continued use of quotations from their translations in the exhibition catalogue. The museum has also acknowledged Wang's work in the catalogue and is in discussion with her.
