Advancements in Quantum-Limited Timing Links for Geosynchronous Satellites
Researchers have demonstrated quantum-limited optical time transfer (QLOT) for future geosynchronous links, which could enable precise synchronization of optical clocks in space. The QLOT technique uses free-space laser links to transfer optical frequencies between ground stations and satellites, overcoming the challenges posed by the turbulent atmosphere. This development could have implications for fundamental physics experiments, as well as applications in geodesy and satellite-based navigation and communication systems.
