Search intensifies for missing radioactive cylinder in Thailand

Authorities in Thailand are searching for a metal cylinder containing Caesium-137, a highly radioactive substance that can cause serious health problems, which went missing from a power plant in a populated area. The cylinder was reported missing during routine checks on March 10 and contains a substance that has a half-life of about 30 years, posing a risk to the population for decades to come if not found. Search teams, drones, and robots have been deployed to recover the missing cylinder, and authorities are warning the public of serious health risks should they come across it.

Search intensifies for missing radioactive cylinder in Thailand

Thai authorities are searching for a 30-centimeter-long cylinder containing Caesium-137, which has gone missing from a power plant in Prachinburi province. The cylinder was used for measuring ash in a silo and may have disappeared several weeks ago. Health officials have warned that prolonged direct contact with radioactive material can cause skin rashes, hair loss, canker sores, fatigue, and vomiting, and short-term contact with Caesium-137 may lead to a higher risk of cancer.
