RAIB probes Lewes derailment as Southern suspends lines this weekend
Rail Accident Investigation Branch investigators are at the Lewes derailment site in East Sussex after a train carrying about 150 people derailed, injuring two seriously and 18 others. Three carriages left the tracks, and lines between Haywards Heath and Lewes are closed indefinitely with weekend services on the London Victoria–Eastbourne route canceled and rail replacement buses operating. A second derailment near Wickford, Essex is also noted. Investigators will examine the track, signalling and train data and consider whether heat affected infrastructure; an update is expected next week.
