NYC to Establish Migrant Shelter on Randall's Island
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced a plan to house up to 2,000 migrants on Randalls Island in the East River, as the city's system struggles to accommodate the growing number of asylum seekers. The city has previously rented hotels and repurposed buildings to house migrants, but the new plan involves setting up a tent city on the island. Over 57,200 asylum seekers are currently in the city's care.
