"Report Reveals Tesla's Range Claims Are Significantly Inflated"
A report by Reuters reveals that Tesla has been exaggerating the range of its vehicles by rigging their range-estimating software, with CEO Elon Musk directing the company to present optimistic range estimates. The inflated numbers have been known by EV experts for years, and Tesla was fined $2.2 million by the Korea Fair Trade Commission for falsely overstating its range. Independent testing by Recurrent shows that Tesla vehicles fall significantly short of their advertised ranges, with the 2021 Model Y averaging closer to 200 miles in summer and as low as 124-235 miles in winter. Tesla's range estimates are often far from reality, and the company feeds its own numbers to the EPA, which only slightly lowers the estimates.
