Ray Smith Becomes First of 19 Fulton County Defendants to Plead Not Guilty
Ray Smith, a former lawyer for the Trump campaign, has pleaded not guilty to charges in Fulton County, Georgia, becoming the first of 19 defendants to enter a plea. Smith and his co-defendants, including former President Donald Trump, are accused of violating Georgia's racketeering law by allegedly plotting to overturn the state's 2020 election results. Smith surrendered to a Fulton County jail on August 23 and was released on bond. It remains unclear if any other defendants will waive their arraignments, with the other 18 co-defendants scheduled to be arraigned on September 6.
