I-95 Collapse Highlights Vulnerability of US Roads.
Recycled glass will be used to fill in the hole on I-95 in North Philadelphia caused by a tanker truck fire that damaged overpasses. The glass aggregate will support a temporary roadway until permanent structures can be built. The fill is 2,000 tons of lightweight recycled glass nuggets, which is being used to avoid delays due to supply chain issues by using other materials. Once the backfill work is complete, traffic can return to I-95 while crews work to rebuild a permanent bridge while keeping six lanes of traffic flowing at all times.
