Ohio House Dems push to repeal abortion laws following Issue 1 victory
Ohio House Democrats have introduced the Reproductive Care Act, a bill aimed at repealing various abortion restrictions in the state, including 6-week and 20-week abortion bans, mandatory waiting periods, and mandatory transfer agreements. The bill also proposes new data privacy protections, nondiscrimination mandates, and civil and criminal reforms. However, Democrats would need significant support from House Republicans for the bill to move forward, which is unlikely. This comes after Ohioans voted to enshrine abortion access into the state constitution, providing a stronger platform for abortion-rights advocates to challenge existing restrictions through legal means.
