Ariana Grande announced her eighth studio album, Petal, executive produced and co-written with producer Ilya Salmanzadeh, and set for a July 31 release via Republic Records. Described by Grande as a project that’s “full of life” and growing through hardship, Petal follows years of work around the Wicked films and her Eternal Sunshine era, with a summer tour kicking off in June that Grande hinted might be her last for a long time.
Kim Petras publicly asked to be dropped by Republic Records, claiming her completed album Detour hasn’t been given a release date or payments to collaborators, and that she wants to self-fund and self-curate her music. Petras notes she’s been with Republic since 2021 and rose to prominence with the Sam Smith collaboration “Unholy,” but says she will drop Detour regardless and there’s no clear timeline for a label release; Republic did not comment at press time.
Taylor Swift expressed her surprise and gratitude as her 2019 song "Cruel Summer" became a single four years after its release due to its popularity on streaming platforms. The song was supposed to be a single off her Lover album, but the pandemic halted its release. Republic Records has now decided to promote it to pop radio stations, while continuing to promote her latest single "Karma." "Cruel Summer" returned to the Billboard Hot 100 chart and currently ranks at No. 47.
