Aoki's Osaka Return to RIZIN Seeks Closure for DREAM Era

Shinya Aoki returns to RIZIN in Osaka at 43 to face Mikuru Asakura, seeking closure for the DREAM era and the void left by PRIDE. After a stint with ONE where he was lightweight champion, he notes the current Japanese MMA scene differs from PRIDE’s heyday, but expresses gratitude for the warm fan reception. He isn’t chasing a title in 2026, instead pursuing varied matchups and potential legend bouts as he nears retirement, with the goal of closing chapters rather than reclaiming a belt.
