"Fexinidazole: The New Frontier in Effective Sleeping Sickness Therapy"
Researchers at Bar-Ilan University have discovered a new method to combat African trypanosomiasis, commonly known as sleeping sickness, by targeting the ribosome of the trypanosome parasite to inhibit its protein synthesis, leading to its death. This RNA-based drug approach could prevent the disease's transmission and also aid in treating other parasitic diseases. The study, which involved collaboration with Nobel laureate Prof. Ada Yonath, offers a promising avenue for developing effective treatments against parasites resistant to current drugs.
