Phil Mickelson's PGA Championship was saved by a rules official during the second round at Oak Hill Country Club on Friday. Mickelson hit his tee shot into the water and dropped a ball where he believed the original shot had entered the water. A rules official disagreed, making his way over to Mickelson to tell him that it was an incorrect drop and he would have resulted in a 1-stroke penalty if he played his ball from the wrong position. Mickelson was already 5-over after 36 holes, right on the cut line. However, he made the cut and is optimistic about his chances.
Rules officials saved Phil Mickelson from being assessed a 1-stroke penalty for playing his ball from the wrong spot during the second round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club. Mickelson hit his tee shot into the water down the right side of the sixth fairway and dropped a ball near where he believed his original one had entered the hazard. The rules officials stopped him before he hit his third shot and he was very appreciative.
