Reading mother's slaying suspect Ryan Hanafin arrested in Vermont after brief manhunt
Ryan Hanafin, 22, was arrested in Vermont on Thursday after being identified as a person of interest in the shooting death of his mother, Andria Hanafin, 49, at their Reading, Massachusetts home. Andria was found dead in the kitchen early Thursday morning by her husband, Matthew, who had returned from work. The couple's 13-year-old son was present but unharmed. Hanafin was located driving a black Dodge Charger on Vermont Route 100 near Warren at 2:30 p.m. and taken into custody without incident. He is currently held as a fugitive from justice in Vermont and faces an arraignment on Friday. Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan described the case as an apparent homicide and potential domestic violence incident, though the murder weapon has not yet been recovered.
