Google and Android Enhance Safety Alerts for Find My Device Network and AirTag Trackers

Google is delaying the rollout of its Find My Device network until Apple implements safety alerts for iOS. The decision is aimed at prioritizing user safety and preventing unwanted location tracking. Google plans to leverage millions of Android devices to track missing gadgets, similar to Apple's Find My network. However, Google wants to ensure that both major mobile platforms can identify unknown trackers before releasing new trackers. In the meantime, Android phones will begin warning users when an unknown AirTag is detected, providing a system-level prompt to protect against unauthorized tracking. This feature will be available on Android 6 and later via a software update to Google Play Services.

Bipartisan Bill Mandates AM Radio in New Cars.

The lawmakers argue that AM radio is a crucial tool for democracy and public safety, providing a platform for alternative viewpoints and emergency alerts. Some automakers have skipped having AM radio in their EVs, citing interference from the vehicles' motors. The bill has been criticized by a trade group for car makers, which argues that it is unnecessary and that emergency alerts can be delivered through other means.
