NASA concludes its eight-year Saffire experiment, which studied fire behavior in microgravity and the propagation of flames in space to inform spacecraft and spacesuit designs, as well as emergency protocols. The final experiment, Saffire-VI, launched in August 2023, simulated conditions within a crewed spacecraft by igniting flames on various materials. The series of experiments ended with the destruction of the last test unit during atmospheric reentry, marking the culmination of valuable research for space safety.
