San Diego County probes four cryptosporidiosis cases linked to Gaylord Pacific Resort pools
San Diego County public health officials are investigating four confirmed cases of cryptosporidiosis, a highly contagious parasitic infection, linked to the swimming pools at the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center in Chula Vista. The county has alerted individuals who swam in the resort's pools between July 24 and August 15, 2026, that they may have been exposed. While the parasite is resistant to chlorine and can survive in properly maintained pools, officials have not stated that the resort's maintenance was improper. Symptoms typically include acute watery diarrhea appearing 2 to 10 days after exposure, and the infection can be severe for those with weakened immune systems. Although the Gaylord Pacific Resort was contacted for comment, no response was received as of the report's publication.
