"Revolutionary Open-Access Initiative Unveiled by Reformers"
The group behind the open-access initiative Plan S, called cOAlition S, has unveiled a new proposal to revolutionize research publishing. The plan aims to give authors control over when and where to publish their work, with all versions of an article and its associated peer-review reports being openly available from the outset without any fees. Publishers would become service providers, responsible for tasks such as copy-editing and typesetting. The proposal outlines a future "community-based" and "scholar-led" open-research communication system, which would mark a significant departure from the current scholarly publishing model. cOAlition S is seeking feedback from the research community on the plan.
