
Amazon's AI Data Center Could Elevate U.S. Emissions to New Heights
Amazon Web Services plans a massive Pecos County, Texas data center powered by a 7.65 GW gas-fired plant that could emit about 33 million tons of CO2 annually, potentially making it the largest single source of emissions in the United States and challenging Amazon’s net-zero by 2040 pledge, as the company already posted a 34% jump in electricity usage in 2025.
