J&J's $223.8 Million Talc Cancer Verdict Overturned by Court
A New Jersey appeals court has overturned a $223.8 million verdict against Johnson & Johnson (J&J) in a talc cancer case. The court found that the lower court judge should not have allowed certain scientific expert testimony presented by the plaintiffs. J&J maintains that its talc products are safe and do not contain asbestos. The company faces over 38,000 lawsuits alleging that its talc products can cause cancer. This decision comes after J&J failed to move the claims into bankruptcy court and while it is appealing a proposed $8.9 billion settlement. Trials can now resume after being on hold during the bankruptcy petition.
