Grim Last Photo of 5 Friends Drown While Rescue Attempt on Ohio's Scioto River
Five adults, including two Honduran couples and a friend, drowned in the Scioto River while attempting to rescue a swimmer. Photographer Marcus L. Martin says he may have captured the group’s last moments alive as they fished waist-deep in the river; two women survived and were hospitalized, while three men were recovered the next day. Honduran authorities identified the couples; the scene left two young children orphaned and in state care. The river was high and fast, and the drowning remains under investigation by U.S. and Honduran authorities.
