Giants End Devers' Historic 2026 Campaign Early to Prioritize Core Surgery
San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello confirmed that star slugger Rafael Devers was placed on the 60-day injured list with a core muscle injury, ending his season with 13 games remaining. Despite Devers hitting 37 home runs and driving in 98 runs, the organization prioritized long-term health over a potential 40-100 milestone. Devers will consult Dr. William Meyers, who previously treated Matt Chapman, with surgery likely by Tuesday. Outfielder Scott Bandura was called up for his MLB debut to replace Devers, while Vitello noted that a potential December 1 lockout may have accelerated the timeline to ensure Devers completes rehab before losing access to team staff.
