Australian teen’s 4km rescue swim saves family swept at sea
A 13-year-old boy from Western Australia swam roughly four kilometers (about 2.5 miles) through rough seas to shore to raise the alarm after his mother and two younger siblings were swept out to sea. He initially wore a life jacket, ditched it to swim, and spent about four hours in the water before a helicopter and marine rescue crews found the family; all four were rescued and later assessed, with none needing hospital admission. The rescue commander called his actions “superhuman.”
