California Legislature passes amended child sex abuse law, sending it to Newsom
California lawmakers passed Senate Bill 577, amending a 2019 law that expanded the statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse claims. The bill requires victims over 40 to provide stronger evidence of institutional awareness and imposes fines on attorneys filing fraudulent claims, but it rejects caps on damages. The legislation now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom.
