Regulator Probes $7B in Oil Bets Timed Before Trump Remarks
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is investigating roughly $7 billion in short oil bets placed in March and April, timed to President Trump’s statements that knocked crude prices lower. The bets spanned Brent, WTI, gasoline and diesel on ICE and CME, with earlier reports citing about $2.6 billion. The White House emphasized ethics rules against using non-public information, Reuters reported, and no charges have been announced.
