Malibu kayaker hospitalized after double shark bite during fishing incident
A man was hospitalized on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after being bitten twice by a shark while fishing from a kayak near Paradise Cove in Malibu. The victim, whose identity has not been released, hooked a shortfin mako shark approximately two miles offshore around 7:30 a.m. While attempting to release the fish, the shark bit him, causing him to fall into the water. The shark then attacked him a second time, biting his leg before swimming away. Passengers from a nearby fishing boat rescued the man and brought him to shore, where he was transported to a local hospital. His condition remains unknown. Authorities classified the event as a 'fishing incident' rather than an unprovoked attack, and the beach remained open.
