Consumer Reports evaluated seven slow cookers from brands including Crock-Pot, Ninja, and Instant Pot by preparing beef stew to assess performance, ease of use, and cleaning. While all models successfully cooked meat and vegetables, the organization highlighted four top choices based on intuitive interfaces and maintenance convenience. The tested units ranged in price from $45 to $300 and had capacities between 6 and 8.5 quarts. Key findings indicated that while cooking results were generally excellent across the board, differences in programming simplicity and cleaning effort were the primary factors distinguishing the best models. The report also noted that one specific model experienced issues with spilling water and steam, while others proved difficult to clean. Consumer Reports emphasized that the 'warm' setting is not a substitute for active cooking, as it cannot cook raw ingredients, and advised filling the appliance between one-half and two-thirds full for even results.
