Fatal Pursuit: 8 Dead in Smuggled Migrants Car Chase
Eight people were killed in a car crash in South Texas after a vehicle suspected of carrying smuggled migrants fled from police and collided head-on with another car. The crash occurred near Batesville and is the deadliest crash involving migrants since 2021. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Texas has expressed concerns over vehicle pursuits of migrants, citing 106 deaths resulting from Border Patrol-involved pursuits between 2010 and 2023. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently implemented a new vehicle pursuit policy, aiming to balance the need for apprehension with the potential risks of a chase.
