Italy Receives Support from EU Leaders Amidst Devastating Floods
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited the Emilia Romagna region in Italy, which was devastated by floods last week, promising support and aid from the Solidarity Fund. The Italian government has approved over €2 billion in aid for the region, including tax and utility bill suspensions, and mortgage payment suspensions in disaster zones. The aid also includes assistance for education and workers left jobless due to destroyed or inaccessible farms and businesses. The agricultural sector is still calculating losses, and many beach resorts along the Adriatic Sea were also badly damaged.
