A man in his late 40s was fatally stabbed by a South El Monte homeowner after he and two other suspects attempted to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home. The stabbing occurred after the resident exited the front door of the home and was confronted by the suspects. The homeowner was detained for questioning, while the other suspects fled the scene.
A suspected catalytic converter thief was fatally stabbed in a South El Monte driveway early Friday morning when a resident reportedly confronted multiple thieves in progress. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and found a man dead. The resident said he had been sleeping when he heard people outside tampering with his car. An altercation ensued and one man was fatally stabbed. Two to three other suspects ran away, and were last seen driving eastbound on Thienes Avenue in a compact vehicle. Tools found at the scene indicate the suspects were in the process of attempting to steal catalytic converters.
