Natalie Merchant's new album, Keep Your Courage, explores love in all its forms and features her stunning voice, which she briefly lost after spinal cord surgery. The album almost didn't happen, but a chance connection with poet Robin Robertson helped put it in motion. In addition to discussing her songwriting technique, Merchant talks about her life outside of music, including serving on the board of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
