Fatal crash halts Nürburgring 24 Hours qualifying
Racing driver Juha Miettinen died after a horrific seven-car pile-up early in the ADAC 24h Nürburgring qualifying race at the Karussell section; Miettinen was in the BMW 325i (car #121). The race was halted for extensive recovery, and he died at the Medical Centre despite resuscitation efforts. The other six drivers were treated for precautionary examinations, none in life-threatening condition, and the race did not resume that evening. A minute of silence was planned for Sunday in memory of Miettinen.
