North Lincolnshire Man Sentenced to 16 Months for Sexual Assault of Deceased Woman
Stephen Sellars, 62, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for sexually penetrating a corpse in North Lincolnshire. The victim, a woman diagnosed with cancer eight weeks prior, died at home. Sellars was caught by the victim's son and nephew after locking the door and shutting curtains to commit the act. Judge John Thackray KC noted that a recent law change would have allowed a maximum sentence of seven years, but the current maximum is two years. Sellars pleaded guilty, though he initially denied the offense to police. He received a five-year sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order. The victim's family described the impact as massive and unimaginable.
