A review of over 300 clinical trials involving more than 150,000 adult smokers worldwide suggests that nicotine-containing e-cigarettes, or vapes, are among the most effective tools to help people quit smoking. The study also found that two pills called varenicline and cytisine, as well as dual nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), were associated with high success rates in smoking cessation. However, the availability of varenicline and cytisine is limited in many countries. The review emphasizes the need for further research on the long-term consequences of using these aids and highlights the rising popularity of e-cigarettes and concerns about their environmental impact and use by non-smokers.
