Southampton PE Teacher Faces Trial Over Alleged Sexual Relationship with 16-Year-Old Pupil
Bronwen James, a 30-year-old physical education teacher at Bitterne Park School in Southampton, is standing trial at Winchester Crown Court on four charges of sexual activity with a 16-year-old student. Prosecutors allege that James initiated a 'sexually charged' relationship with the pupil after accepting his Snapchat request, leading to multiple sexual encounters at her home in Chippenham, Wiltshire. The trial, which was adjourned after the initial jury was discharged, centers on claims that James groomed the boy, telling him she loved him and wished to move away together. James denies all allegations, claiming in a prepared statement that the student fabricated the accusations at the behest of another pupil. The case highlights concerns over teacher-student boundaries and the potential for grooming in educational settings.
